The December cold of 1944 blew through my skimpy uniform as if it wasn’t there, chilling me to the bone and sending more shivers across my whole body. My arms were shaking, I could deduce that much from the rocking of my sight as I continued to gaze through my scope. Nothing but endless white and countless trees slowly moved by as I swayed my rifle from left to right, trying to spot anything that could be linked to human beings.
