In the novel Taronga to what extent is Ben considered hero?

In the novel Taronga Ben is considered a hero because he is courageous, determined and has powers. Ben is considered a hero because he has super powers. In chapter one Ben quotes, "I'm never going to Call again, not for you or for anyone (page 10)" What Ben means by ‘Call' is talking to or commanding the animals. This is his telepathic ability to control animals. This makes Ben a hero because this ability can be considered as ‘super powers'. Just like the super heroes we see on television, Ben has an ability that is extremely rare. This makes Ben a hero. Ben is a hero because he is courageous. In chapter one of the novel Taronga this is quoted, "Ben responded quickly, because I'm leaving; He expected Greg to flare out at him. Instead he took a burning stick from the fire and held it up between them in an oddly threatening gesture. ‘You know what happened last time'; he said softly the suggestion of a smile on his face. Ben could hardly have forgotten. Within four hours of running off, Greg had caught up with him and beaten him so badly it had taken him a month to recover. ‘I'm still going', he said doggedly. ‘Suit yourself' ‘I will'." This shows courage because although Ben knows what happened the last time, he is still willing to run away. This is courageous because there is a fair chance that Ben will be beaten again but he is not backing down. This makes Ben a hero because heroes have courage just as Ben does. Ben is a hero because he has determination. "And the great coat, now saturated dragged on his shoulders like a lead weight, the men trailing in the mud. But he forced himself to keep moving." Being determined makes Ben a hero because what he intends to do he pushes on to do so, and nothing will get in his way.
