Art: Does It Mean What It Says?
According to Wikipedia (2007), “Art is a human activity, or the product of that activity, intended to stimulate the human senses and mind - therefore art is an action, object, or a collection of both created with the intention of transmitting emotions or ideas. Beyond this description, there is no general agreed-upon definition of art, since defining the boundaries of art is subjective, but the impetus for art is often called human creativity.” A more formal definition for art is listed by dictionary.com (2007) as “the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.
Here are some examples of art that caught my eye as I thought of the different types of art forms and the definitions listed above.

The artists captured the beauty of the love and passion between a man and a woman. This painting stimulates the human senses with it sensual context. The two objects, which are the man and the woman, are embracing for a kiss which is the action portrayed. The beauty is in the tastefulness and purity if the image. This painting exemplifies a human activity, transmitting the emotions of love, contentment, and security of being in the arms of the one whom you love.

The sculpture looks as though Darth Vader is actually there and the artist has just covered him in a cream coating. The sheer talent that it took to carve a block of butter to look so life like is incredible. This sculpture stimulates the mind.
