Southwestern Bell is the pre-existing name to what is now BellSouth Corporation and that includes AT&T. BellSouth is the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) for nine states from Louisiana to Kentucky. In spite of a decrease in demand for local wireless services, the Baby Bell has more than 20 million access lines in service (Hoovers, 2008).
In 2005, SBC Communications Inc. acquired AT&T Corp. and created the new AT&T, set to head the businesses of phone service including wireless. With the merger of AT&T and BellSouth, along with consolidated ownership of Cingular Wireless and YELLOWPAGES.COM, the new AT&T will have better economic, technical, research and progress as well...
