AYURVEDIC MASSAGE

Massage is one of the vital part of Ayurvedic treatment system. It is as old as Indian civilization as a result of which this practice is found in every family in the Indian sub continent. It is practiced as a treatment of certain neuro disorders, for rejuvenating and relaxing , skin care as well as joints toxin regulator . Massgae in Ayurvedic language is known as “Abhyanga” which signifies a therapy to relax mind and body . It helps a rapid recovery from workouts and reduces the tiredness and tones muscles,promotes the blood circulation , reduces the blockages which interferes the nutrition to the tissues ,stimulates capillaries and releases the endorphins as well as helps to cease the tension.

MYTHOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL BACK GROUND-:

Ayurvedic system is beyond the definition of western disease treatment. It is not only associated with the medicine and surgery system rather a science of maintaining a healthy and spiritual life in India. Since time immemorial massage has been portrayed as a loving pastime for Gods in the Hindu mythology. In the Vishnu Purana( A sacred scripture of Hinduism) it is described as the lord Vishnu likes to have foot massage by his consort Goddess Lakhsmi. According to the description Lakshmi does foot massage of the Lord in spare time by keeping his feet on her lap .
During the massage a heavenly environment of love and loyalty is created.
Even in the conjugal life of an Indian couple a wife is supposed to undertake a foot massage for her husband before bed time . Traditional social experts are of the opinion that foot massage by a wife is not only her nursing duty rather a stimuli of love and care in between a couple.
