The Minister’s Black Veil: Themes and Symbolism of the Veil
Throughout life, everyone has secrets that they suppress within. No matter how wholesome and pure someone may seem on the outside, only that individual truly knows the extent of their morality. Some secrets may be shocking and appalling, and some may be minor and insignificant. Regardless, they are all secrets and everyone has them. In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Minister’s Black Veil”, there are many themes of moral corruption, sin, doubt, guilt, and loneliness. Each of the major characters portrays these themes throughout the story.
