A. What connections are made between the poem’s ‘lovely infant’ (line 2) and the ‘Holy image’ of line 22?

There is a deep connection between line 2 and 22. ‘Lovely infant’ represents a child sleeping and dreaming of nice things. The line uses soft language to reinforce this image as what we are presented with is a whole image of innocence and purity.
Line 22 is linking the ‘Lovely infant’ to Jesus as a human baby. It links the innocence that both Jesus and a child have and this is shown by the fact that the child is described in soft tones ‘Sweet babe in thy face’.
However just like Jesus the baby will not always be innocent...
