Base on my experience as a bank manager and someone that has plenty of experience working under someone, I know what it takes to become a good manager. First of all, I think that a manager should be very knowledgeable to not only ensure the company that he/she is capable but also to earn the respect from their co-workers and employees. Crucial knowledge consists of industry and product knowledge. A manager should always have answers or know how to get the answers because often time's employees are dependent on the manager's help and decision. The employees will rebel and question the manager's authority if respect is not earned or established. Inefficiency can result from rebellious employees.
Besides from having good product knowledge, utilize dates, project future outcomes, delegation skills and good working ethics, the second important most important aspect of a good manager is his/her oral and motivational skills. I truly believe that happy workers not only work harder but they will also climb mountains for you. A manager should show appreciation by talking to the staff very regularly to answers any questions or concerns that the employees may have, and a simple pad on the back or a "good job" is often times very effective. Fun activities or rewards are also good motivational tools for a good manager.

I do believe that there are better managers than others. I've had plenty of bad managers over the years and through that I'd gained experience of what not to do. The biggest flaw that a manager can have is his/her inability to cope with high stress situations.
