Within the businesses section of the Virtual Organization Portal, there are six businesses. These businesses are Riordan Manufacturing, Huffman Trucking, Kudler Fine Foods, McBride Financial Services, The Elias Group, and Smith Systems Consulting. These businesses are created for students to solve problems and better their skills.
Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is a corporation that “is wholly owned by Riordan Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise.” Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. manufactures plastic injection molding. The corporate office is in San Jose, California. The plant in Albany, Georgia, manufactures “plastic beverage containers.” “Custom plastic parts” are manufactured in Pontiac, Michigan and in Hangzhou, China, “plastic fan parts” are manufactured. (Apollo 2006 Riordan) Consumer confidence has influenced Riordan Manufacturing economically. Surgeons want to be confident that the heart valves and medical stents they use are of top quality and dependability. Environmental protection laws are a legal influence that Riordan Manufacturing has to take into consideration. They need to make sure the plastic products are safe for the environment and also safe to use with what the consumer is using them for.
Huffman Trucking is an S-Corporation type of business. “Since 1945, the fleet had increased in size to 16 tractors and 36 trailers.” (Apollo 2006 Huffman-Home) Huffman now has services in Cleveland, Ohio, Los Angeles, California, St. Louis, Missouri, and Bayonne, New Jersey. (Apollo 2006 Huffman-Facts) The economic influences Huffman needs to consider are the inventory levels for which the company distributes. The government influences Huffman to pay payroll taxes. Huffman must keep up with the local laws and licenses in which the services are provided.
