Carvaka was a vedic school which then became non-hinduistic. It was constructed on
materialism and overindulgence, and is also known as Lokayata. The doctrine, Lokayata, holds
that only this world exists and there is no beyond. The Carvaka has a distinct teaching which
influences the areas of metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and philosophy of religion and each
will be discussed.
Metaphysics deals with a branch of philosophy that is concerned with the ultimate
