Personal Work Environment
Effective communication is extremely crucial within the education sector. As we become a more technologically advanced society, school districts are forced to adapt. The following paper will analyze the amount, types, options, location, and communications practiced at my current place of employment. The paper will also identify how the assigned EResource chapter from Section One relates to my work environment. The paper will conclude with a brief summary of the assigned chapter.
Electronically mediated virtual communication serves as the primary means of communication on my assigned campus. As our school expands, employees are communicating by means of voice mail, E-mail, two-way instant messaging, the Intranet, faxes, and online bulletin boards. Voice mail, and E-mail are two forms that are utilized on a daily basis. Following 9/11 and with plans to build a new facility, every office and classroom was equipped with telephones and required every employee on campus to record a personal voice message. As the volume of calls increase, so does the volume of voice messages received.
In as much as voice mail is used, communicating by E-mail has become the primary means of communication among district employees. Because district policy dictates the time and occurrence schools are allowed to interrupt instructional time, important messages are often shared among employees through E-mail. In addition to communicating with in house employees, E-mail also allows our campus employees to communicate with employees throughout the district via E-mail. Notification for training sessions, and school/district bulletins are communicated via E-mail. It is my belief that the average employee on our campus will send and/or receive a minimum of five E-mails per day as I am responsible for sending three school-wide on a daily basis.
