Cosgrove Hall

The first thing I noticed the my first day living at Crogove hall was that St. Ambrose University does not take security lightly. I thought to myself, "How could the universty cut back on some of the unecessary security policies but still be a safe environment for college students to learn and live." I have come up with some possible solutions for this to work.
One policy that I found to be unecessary is that all of the doors to each floor are constanly locked. If someone has already been through the front desk security why should they also have to have to unlock a door to get to their floor. Many times people just knock on doors or wait until someone else comes along to open it for them anyways. So it almost pointless to lock all the doors to get on to each floor. There are just to many ways to get around it.
Another policy that is over done is that you can only get into the building through the front desk from seven p. m. to seven a. m. Also people that don't live at Cosgrove must be checked in and out by someone who does with an i. d. These people must also be checked out by the person who checked them out in order to get their identification back. Just like all of the doors to each floor being locked this is very inconvenient and time consuming. Its just a hassle to have to do all of these things just to have family or friends come visit. However the policy that says you must have your guests out of the dorm by 2 a. m. is reasonable. But that's not to say that plenty of bad things couldn't be going on until then. It is possible to have a guest stay the night though. But they must be of the same sex as the person checking them in and security must be notified of this 24 hours in advance. This is helps to make sure that the only people who live in the dorms are the people that are supposed to be living there. Im sure this policy is a favorite among parents. Not one that students enjoy though.
