Durkheim

Social foces affect human behaviour in countless areas of life; perhaps the most compelling of these is suicide. As human beings we are proud of our individuality and resist the ides that we act in socially predetermined ways. This prception of individuality brings credence to the compelling nature of the act of suicide, as nothing seems a more personal 'choice' than the decision to take one's own life. Emile Durkheim, a pioneer of sociology, chose to study the affects which social forces have on suicide.
