Effective Communication
Verbal, visual and written types of communication are different forms that individuals use everyday. The key to any successful relationship is the ability to communicate effectively. Effective communication between individuals can set and achieve goals, present new ideas, and increase productivity. Verbal communication is a way of influencing and motivating listeners to act on our message. When the messages are not communicated effectively, it can cause dissent, anger, frustration, confusion and the unwillingness for individuals to participate. In these cases the message is never received because the mind blocks it.
Effective communication is stimulating and motivating. In order to communicate effectively, everyone must be involved. There is no better way to feel part of a group than to be included in conversations that matter and to be heard when an opinion is offered. When individuals are encouraged to think and take risks they are more apt to be productive, diverse, organized and open to new concepts. As individuals bond with other team members they can help each other to expand ideas, improve interpersonal skills, educate and mentor each other, create important relationships within the organization, embrace leadership potential, and further career goals.
Communication starts with the individual. As there are many forms of communication, this is important for the individual to respond appropriately to the different forms of communication. Visual communication is often the most overlooked as it takes an active participation on the part of the viewing individual to look for specific signs.
