In the wake of entrepreneurs, the concept of being successful is measured mostly by the net worth of a person or company. It is apparent, turning a blind eye when trying to get ahead, is occurring more often. In order to prevent biases in the business world a government agency known as the SEC, Securities Exchange Commission, exists to monitor activity, especially publicly traded companies. Although this agency exists, the SEC can not track and catch all parties operating unethically.
"Ethics are the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession." (dictionary.com, 2006). This, simply stated, means a set of rules of proper or correct conduct pertaining to business. In wake of the Enron scandal and the consequences for being found guilty of unethical decisions, more business are increasing the awareness of proper ethics.
Some businesses have even created an ethics committee or department specifically for aiding in ethical decision making tactics. Legal departments are also established to ensure proper compliance with laws. The legal department is not to be confused with the ethics department because ethics deals with moral values. The poor decisions made by decreased moral values or ethics can be a direct link to illegal actions, thus requiring a legal department.

"According to Houston-based the Business Research Lab, more than 50 percent of employees surveyed across multiple companies viewed the ethics of their employers as compromised ranging from extremely unethical (5 percent), very unethical (11 percent), somewhat unethical (16 percent), to somewhat ethical (22 percent).
