Critical thinking and reasoning depend heavily on logic. In order for correct decisions to be made, issues must be examined in a logical manner, and decisions must be reached through logical analysis of the available information. When the decision is to be made by a group, the decision-making process often includes argument and debate. It is during this time that logical fallacies can enter into the equation. A logical fallacy is “a mistake in reasoning,” to be distinguished from a mistake in facts, which is simply a mistake (Curtis, 2006).
