Functions Of Management
This paper summarizes the functions of management and illustrates the concepts by comparing them to Kudler's Fine Foods management organization. It also describes the advantages of internet and how it benefited Kudler's Fine Foods. In addition, there is a brief summary of the five forces of Porter's Model accompanied by examples of Kudler's Fine Foods Company. Those examples try to give a better idea of each concept.
Planning and strategizing is a function of management that helps lay out the future objectives of a company and how they will be accomplished. At Kudler's Fine Foods, the president is responsible for planning or setting the company's goal and also setting the strategy to be used to accomplish those goals. This function also involves a continuing assessment of the company's strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats, so that strategies may be used accordingly (Balkin & Gomez-Mejia, pg 5, 2002).
Organizing is arranging work activities in such a way as to achieve the objectives established by planning. Organizing entitles coordinating the company's resources such as human, financial, technical and others and gets those to work together towards the set goals by assigning roles, responsibilities and priorities. In a relative small company like Kudler, the President will again take charge of organizing the resources to accomplish goals.
According to Balkin and Gomez-Mejia, leading is energizing people to contribute their best individually and in cooperation with other people (Balkin & Gomez-Mejia, pg 5, 2002). Leading starts at the top, therefore the company's president will set the example by motivating their middle management. The middle management, in this case Kudler's Dir. Finance & Accounting, Dir. Store Operations, and Dir. Administration & Human Resources, will have the responsibility to encourage the people they supervise to follow the strategy set to accomplish the desire goal.
