Gallipoli

The movie begins in Western Australia, with a young man who is living on a ranch. He is a sprinter, but really dreams of leaving the ranch and riding with the Australian army. He gets his opportunity after winning a race, and telling his uncle that he will not be coming back home with him to the ranch. He teams up with a new friend, Mel Gibson, and their friendship begins with them both getting into the Australian army.
The movie continues with the two young men training in the desert before they are sent to the front lines. The main character is a member of the cavalry and Mel Gibson has been put into the infantry because he was unable to pass a riding test given to him....
