We have chosen the following topics to benchmark based on the information presented in the Global Communications scenario: outsourcing, business ethics, union negotiations, multinational corporations and employment law, organizational commitment, and business management and decision making.
Outsourcing and multinational corporations were chosen as part of our benchmarking because the strategy developed by senior management team at Global Communications because, Global Communications is evolving from a national corporation into a multinational corporation. Becoming a multinational corporation is going to result in changes in the way Global Communications operates which includes the labor laws and the employment market of Ireland and India. Cross cultural communication is another barrier that the management of Global Communications will be faced with.
Another of the topics we decided to benchmark was union negotiations. It is important to maintain good relations with the union for several reasons. First of all we want to look like we care about the employees, and that we stick by our mission statement that we care about our employees and our customers. Second, we will continue to have a working relationship with the union with regard to the employees that remain with Global Communications, and third we do not want any negative action taken against us in our move to outsourcing.
We benchmarked business ethics because we saw the senior members of the Global Communications management team as having created some very difficult ethical issues for the company.
Organizational commitment was chosen for our benchmarking because the employees at Global Communications have an attachment to the company. The employees want the company to succeed and to be a part of the new strategy the company is developing for the future.
