Usually the IP Engineer is required to carry out work like: Designing and planning the layout of the network, developing processes to ensure stability of the network through testing of new code and hardware, maintaining existing equipment through equipment software hardware maintenance and upgrades. In addition, the IP Engineer is also required to supervise the staff that is involved in support and monitoring activities. This may involve finding out the specific errors that can pinpoint equipment failure. Coordinating with equipment vendors for support and resolution of any outage issues is a key part of supporting a global network.
