Working at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank help me enhanced my further understanding of human adult development. Poor old people like the homeless and minorities who are suffering from hunger due to the fact that they are poor and can’t support themselves are at a severe disadvantaged leading to double jeopardy. Volunteers like I must step in to fight and resolve the issue. These people have lost their opportunities in life, their dreams, their occupations, and their freedom of self-independence merely because they are in poverty environment, the lowest status in society. This only implies that they are suffering from system of inequality not getting the equal opportunity and income that they deserve. Being in this type of situation can only lead to more chronic health problems, greater disability, and a shortest life expectancy. The only thing we can do for them is to help these helpless individuals who can’t help themselves by giving aid in helping package these donated foods to the homeless minorities just like the typical Asian American cultural value of filial piety in helping out their elders. These homeless minorities are not just some low-life individuals who are outcasts; they are a part of the family community as well. As part of the family system, we must meet the needs of individual members. In this case we provide them packaged donated food in meeting their need of hunger.
Working at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank also helped me encounter interesting individuals at the site. I met an Asian individual name Jeff who fits the personality type enterprising. He is a financial advisor for the company Morgan Stanley. He is verbal, dominating, a leader, power, extraverted, outgoing, dependable, etc. He finished college a couple years ago and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona.
