During Chaucer’s time, women were looked at as evil and the reason why man must now deal with sin, the main cause of most of man’s misfortune. This was due to Eve ( the first woman created in the bible) being looked at as the “mother of sin”( Thomas 1). Women now may look upon most of these views as detestable and something that should have been protested. The only difference is that women in the fourteenth century had no freedom to express their opinions. All of these reasons are why it is important to discuss and understand The Wife of Bath.
