Jean Renoir, once voted the 12th greatest director of all time by Entertainment Weekly magazine, was and still is a powerful influence on modern cinema. Much of his work was considered “before its time” and has even been said to be the inspiration for the European new cinema of the 1960’s. Being such an Avant-Garde many times resulted in the banning of his films, and even destroying the negatives in some cases. Renoir once said, “a director only makes one film in his life.
