Leadership Secrets Of The Rogue Warrior

In the book Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior, written and narrated by Richard Marcinko reveals how his personal military experience has developed him into a "Grade A" leader both in the field and corporate world. Marcinko begins the book by explaining a set of commandments created by himself to teach others his key points of applying a warriors spirit to a managers actions. Three important commandments stuck out in my mind while reading this book and those include commandment one, commandment three, and commandment seven. These commandments express important values I think that business and American society have forgotten about through the filtering of political correctness and equal opportunity.
The first commandment "I am the War Lord and the wrathful God of Combat and I will always lead you from the front, not the rear." Describes how people like Lee Iacocca of the Chrysler car company lead from example rather than rank or command. Marcinko expresses how this type of leadership grants an acceptance to those who seek a leader. To think of yourself as an equal and participate in all fields of the company showing you willingness to successfully complete the job brings about an ideal of "I've already been their, now I want you to go there." I would consider this commandment to be one of the most important commandments Marcinko addresses, because this attitude of leadership in America seems to be diminishing as the jobs continually are being shipped elsewhere. Leading a group by example rather than just directions personally shows a sign of leadership because it shows a caring nature towards the company and those whom job you're performing; it almost breaks the all too common barriers that exist between upper management and the working. By breaking this barrier a common ground can be formed between the two groups and ultimately improving the relationships they hold.
