(a) How did Benton get into this mess?
During her first and second year at Harvard Business School, Benton worked as an assistant to the president of Right away stores, based in Chicago. There she enjoyed the job and was proud of the new non-merchandising service that she introduced and supervised from the beginning until it went to production. After she finished her school, she was offered a position at Right Away, which had substantially higher pay compared to her other job at Home world corporation. Kinston, president of right Away promised to give her Vice- President job at Right Away. Lisa was little hesitant to take high level position immediately after school, where as at Home world corporation, at least she thought that she would be getting classical marketing training as an assistant product manager. Also Home world was a major corporation compared to Right Away, which was s small company. All these reasons made Lisa to take up a job at Home world, instead of Right away which landed her into this mess.
(b) Could she have done anything differently?
Lisa was in a position, where she had a boss, Deborah Linton, who did not care about Harvard MBA's. Also she heard from sources that Ron Scoville, had close relation ship with her boss. So all the problems that she faced with Scoville, she could not bring them and talk to Linton when she talked to her personally, and when she did, Linton advised her that she should learn and try to cope up co-workers as she did not have a problem dealing with Scoville. So she was stuck in her position and anything that would have done at that point would have back fired and would have brought a bad reputation, as she was a new employee in the company.
(c) Evaluate the evaluation session conducted by Linton.
