A magnet school is defined as a public school that offers specialized courses or curricula. The use of the word magnet refers to magnet schools drawing students from across normal boundaries defined by school boards as school zones that feed into certain schools. Usually students are zoned into their schools based on location. Students generally go to the school that they are closest to.
