Introduction
OSHA's mission has always been the same: to make sure that the safety and health concerns of all American workers are being met. The agency has developed specific workplace standards and polices businesses to make sure these standards are being met. The human resource department is responsible to make sure the company is compliant with OSHA regulations. The purpose of this paper is to benchmark companies and best practices to ensure the company is in compliant with OSHA regulations. The companies researched were: Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Nike, Arby's Restaurants, Worsley Oil, Glaxo, Goldkist, Tropicana Dole Beverages, and Union Pacific Railroad.
Good Shepherd Nursing Home- Lifting Injuries-Janice New
Good Shepherd Nursing Home of Wheeling West Virginia was established in December of 1970 to provide long-term care services to aged residents of the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and contiguous counties in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. "Good Shepherd opened with 16 residents and through a series of expansions grew to its present capacity of 192 residents, making it the largest nonprofit nursing home in West Virginia and the state's second largest nursing home overall,"(Kirsch, 2000, p. 2). "Good Shepherd employs 229 full- and part-time personnel, the physical plant, which houses their operation, is approximately 175,000 square feet," (Kirsch, 2000, p. 2).
