My Choice
My Choice
The choice to attend Arkansas Baptist College was based on the Christian environment, the heritage, but most of all the inspirational staff. I am a twenty nine year old single, African American mother of three children; Caylin and Calvin eight year old twin boys and the "baby' Kierstin, my five year old daughter. September 1996 I entered Arkansas Baptist College classified as a senior. Returning to school after having three children was a complex decision. Two staff members in particular on the campus inspired me, Dean Mary Jarrett and Dr. Cheryl Felder-Stuart. The staff has made me feel like an individual and not a number, as other universities I've heard about. Today I have seven classes with at least five A's that I know of due to knowledgeable staff.
Arkansas Baptist College has given me tools I can utilize throughout my life. I've experienced great opportunities happen and happening at Arkansas Baptist College. Change is good, especially if for the best. We pray through the course of this change our beloved ABC will continue to have staff that will support, and force students to be individualist striving to reach the highest potential academically. The staff has not only taught me knowledge that I must have for my career field, but also tools I will be able use throughout my life.
Having left school the staff never forgot about me. Dean Mary Jarrett took time out of her awesome schedule just to visit and encourage me to return to school. The fact she found me and made me feel as though "someone" cared about me, motivated my return. I grew up in a broken home, and have been shifted from one family member to another. I was very touched to have a staff member go over and beyond, just for me a student who had no drive. Ms Jarrett has always encouraged me to finish what Christ has already begun inside of me. Mrs. Jarrett is a lady of strength and character. I feel honored to have been graced with her wisdom.
