My Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence will increase my understanding of how individuals behave and adapt to their social environment. This course will help me better understand and manage my emotions, prepare me to raise emotionally intelligent children, and assist me in applying the information in my place of business.
“Emotionally intelligent people are more self-aware regarding their strengths and limitations, and because of this they are claimed to be more confident, optimistic, flexible, innovative and comfortable with new ideas (Bellack, 1999; Goleman, 1995, 1998; Mayer and Salovey, 1997).”(Strategic Change, 2004). The five components of emotional intelligence are: self-awareness, handling your emotions, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. Becoming self-aware will enhance my ability to make positive decisions in my life because I will know and understand what I am feeling. I am a mother, a wife, a student, a sister, a daughter, and a friend and each of these relationships make me the person I am. Being able to express myself to my loved ones in a confident and loving way is crucial to my emotional health. Understanding my thoughts and my emotions give me the power to cope, remain in good health and have healthy relationships. Having a supportive network of colleagues and friends with whom I share opportunities, problems, and information will be a result of what I learn about myself and my emotions.
In understanding my emotions, I will be better equipped to teach my children strategies on dealing with life’s ups and downs. I aspire to use my children’s’ emotions as opportunities to teach them life...
