Operations Management At Kudler Foods
Introduction
Continuing to find new ways to increase business and gain an
edge over the competition is important in many businesses today. The
same is true for the store Kudler Fine Foods. Kudler Fine Foods is
a store that sells quality gourmet foods out of three stores in the
north county part of San Diego, California. Organic foods are
generally known to be preservative and pesticide free. "Eating
organically grown food doesn't just offer better protection from
agricultural poisons. Surprising new evidence suggests that it may
also offer better food value." (Smith, 1993). Kathy Kudler the
store's owner has decided that it would be beneficial for the company
to start carrying locally grown organic produce at her stores. Many
changes in operations must occur for the store to carry the new
products and offer them to their customers. This paper will discuss
what changes in operations need to take place and be implemented in
order to achieve success in carrying of the organic produce.
Inventories and Forecasting
Kudler prides itself on the service that it gives to both of it
customers. The first customer that Kudler deals with is the internal
customer. The internal customer is the people who work for Kudler
servicing the external customers needs. The external customer is the
people who shop and Kudler. The department managers at each store
currently determine what products Kudler needs to purchase and take
into inventory in order to make them available for consumption by
their customers. Inventory turnover is the responsibility of the
