Operations Management: Kudler Fine Foods
Introduction
Organizations will not succeed if they cannot consistently deliver goods or services at the right time and the right place. Operations decision directly affect the size, shape, quantity, quality, price profitability and speed of delivery of a company’s output whether the company produces a manufactured product such as a car or deliver a service such as insurance (Operations Management, 2006). Operation Management is about how organizations produce or deliver the goods and services that provide the reason for their existence.
Operations management is illustrated in this paper by using Kudler Fine Foods, a company that specializes in gourmet food. Kudler plans to start contracting with local growers of organic produce. If it takes this approach, operational change will be necessary. This paper will identify those business processes at Kudler Fine Foods that could be affected by the change. It will also explain Kudler Fine Foods supply chain and describe the quality control tools and performance standards that Kudler Fine Foods would need to put in place to ensure the effectiveness of its operations.

A process is any part of an organization that takes inputs and converts them into outputs that, it is hoped, are of greater value to the organization than the original inputs (University of Phoenix, 2006). Understanding how Kudler Fine Foods process work is vital to their business. Comparing the metrics of one company to another, often referred to as benchmarking, is an important activity (University of Phoenix, 2006). Metrics can tell the Kudler organization if progress is being made toward improvement. There are many factors management needs to consider when setting up a process.
