Specific purpose: To persuade the audience that OTC sale of the morning after pill should be allowed
Thesis statement: In order show that the FDA should allow OTC sales, we first must understand the problems, second understand the causes, and finally we will look at two solutions.
Introduction
I. You're at the grocery store picking up a bottle of Robitussin cough syrup to remedy a cold that hopefully does not turn into something worse. But how would you feel if you saw a woman picking up a package of the morning after pill?
II. According to an article in the Dec 15, 2003 issue of the LAT, "major medical societies, pediatricians, and family physicians endorse OTC sales of the morning after pill."
III. Despite advice from medical advisers, the FDA recently decided not to allow OTC sales of EC, such as Plan B.
IV. In order to show that the FDA should allow OTC sales of the morning after pill, we first must understand the problems, second understand the causes, and finally we will look at two solutions.
First let's examine the problems with preventing OTC sales of the morning after pill.

a. On Nov 24, 2003, CNN stated that "OTC access could spur wider use of emergency contraception, in turn preventing up to 1.7 million unplanned pregnancies each year and hundreds of thousands of abortions.
b. According to Market Wire on May 7, 2004, the president and CEO of the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals stated that "countries that allow OTC access to EC have far lower rates of teen pregnancy and abortion than the U.S."
