Overview of Accounting Paper
Operating a business, regardless of size, can be a very daunting task. Perhaps the most complex and intimidating is accounting or finance. This presentation will provide small business owners with no accounting or finance background with information on the purpose and nature of financial statements and managerial reports. This presentation will also explain how to use proper financial accounting information in making knowledgeable and ethical business decisions.
Consequently, this presentation will build the knowledge base and competence of small business owners and provide the essential tools needed to effectively manage and oversee the financial operations of their small business.
One of the most important aspects of business management is its financial operations. New business leaders and managers should develop basic skills in financial management; otherwise the company will face many difficulties and setbacks (McNamara, 2005). New business managers should gain a basic understanding and learning of financial statements or managerial reports, their purpose and how to effectively use them in making quality business decisions.
Financial statements are important to a company because it provides key information on the overall health of that company (Block-Hirt, 2005). A financial statement, which will also be viewed in this presentation as a managerial report, is a document that outlines financial strength of a company, how it measures up or performs, and it also indicates the company's position within an industry. This document is an essential element in management business decision-making. (Bizzer, 1999). Gaining a basic understanding of a financial statement is very important for a small business owner to insure that the data presented is pertinent, clear, concise, accurate, and comparable (McNamara, 2005).
