Kudler Fine Foods is a local upscale specialty food store located in the metro San Diego area. Kathy Kudler founded Kudler Fine foods in 1998 after obtaining financing just six months earlier. Each store is stocked with the best domestic and imported foodstuffs. The company has three locations in California with departments that include fresh bakery and pastries, fresh produce, fresh meat and seafood, condiments and packaged foods, and cheese’s and specialty dairy products. Kathy Kudler has hired a talented group of individuals whose responsibility is to help Kudler Fine Foods grow into one the most successful gourmet food stores. This paper will explore the four primary functions of management describing who is responsible for each function at Kudler, technology and internet usage as it relates to the affects on management at Kudler and Porter’s Five-Forces Model.
. The four primary functions of management are as follows: planning/strategizing, organizing, leading and controlling. Planning helps different parts of the organization set future objectives and map out activities necessary to achieve those objectives. To be effective, the objectives of individuals, teams, and management should be coordinated to support the firm’s mission (Gomez-Mejia & Balkin, 2002). The strategic managers are the senior executives such as chair of the board and president. In the Kudler scenario, Kathy Kudler, founder and president represents the planning/strategizing function of management. She has the most invested in the organization therefore her interaction with the external environment is pertinent. Kathy sets the tone for the entire company and does what it takes to oversee the overall success of the company goals and effectiveness.
