The premise of Chapter 6, Public Opinion and Political Socialization: Shaping the People's Voice, is to engage the reader in the concepts of what the public expresses openly in terms of opinion and how these opinions are manifested and illustrated.
Throughout the text, several critical validations are introduced to substantiate the fact that public opinion is an expression that can sometimes be contradictory and misinformed.
The idea of public opinion as an entity to determine what an individual, community, or nation may be thinking is measured by certain characteristics, devices, and polls that are later analyzed to establish results. The model of public opinion and political socialization as it influences the aforementioned will be examined throughout the text of this paper.
Political Socialization, by definition, is the learning process by which people acquire their political opinions, beliefs, and values. The question is then raised, well, how are Americans obtaining the information to develop the concept of political socialization? Experts and analysts have attributed characteristics of this process to be major influences in a person's erudition process. Exposure to the design of political socialization begins with parents introducing children to their own political loyalties and opinions and then expanding the idea. Schools, mass media, churches, work environment, institutions, leaders, and other factors also contribute to the development of political socialization. The aforementioned factors are known as agents of socialization and are a significant source in the reflection of a person's political attitude towards certain variables that affect everyday American politics.
