Mario Prada started the Prada label in 1913. He designed and sold shoes, trunks, and suitcases throughout two boutiques in Milan after traveling throughout Europe and The United States. The classic Prada suitcase was made of heavy walrus skin, but as the plane travel made heavy suitcases impossible to load, the company expanded into making lighter bage made of crystals, tortoise shell and wood.
