Prescription

My research essay topic is going to be “should we be free to buy a medicine without advice of a doctor?” The reason why I choose this topic is because I am interested in medicine and I have seen too many cases that people have health problem because they use medicine overdose, substandard or wrong medicine.
These all make me concern about how important we should listen to the advice of doctor and follow the prescription to take medicine.
In Taiwan, we have national health insurance which covers all the citizens. This is a good system because everyone can have good care even someone is poor. However, since there are too many people want to have an advice from doctor and the numbers of doctor is no longer enough satisfies people who has question of their health problem. Pharmacy becomes a new way to solve this problem.
Pharmacy usually has a qualified apothecary in Taiwan and they have the knowledge of medicine. The problem is that even though the apothecary understands medicine; they do not understand the condition of patient. It causes patients are taking medicine incorrectly. If it affects the patient’s symptom becoming unenthusiastic or even worse, who is going to carry this responsibility?
Since there are numbers of people dose not have enough knowledge to understand how to use medicine correctly and pharmacy give medicine to patient without doctor’s prescription and knowing the condition of patient. We can arrest by enact a law that we should not allow people be free to buy medicine without doctor’s prescription. It probably can help numbers of people who is going to take wrong pills or some already did.
