The state of being under control of another person.
When you think of this word what do you picture? Do you see a small farm with men and women treated like servants by their fellow men or do you see a huge plantation with hundreds of people being forced to do things against their will? Have you ever thought of yourself as a slave? As an American citizen, probably not. We have always been taught that we were born free. Today, I would like to tell you that those teachers were wrong.
Aren't we all slaves? If this definitions is true; does that not make children their parents slaves? A parent can choose the things their kids can and can't do. They decide the work to be done around the house. If a rule is broken they can punish the child. That sounds a lot like those men and women on those small farms to me. Even though these children are under the control of someone else they are still happy. Of course there is always the case when a parent is abusive and the child is not treated well, but because of these situations should we take away parenthood as a whole? Should we at birth just send them on their way? Because we wouldn't want someone to have restrictions right? That would just be inhumane.
Not only does this happen in a family, but it is everyday life for everyone around the world. Our governments make laws that tell us what we can and can't do. They also can punish us if those laws are broken. Now if you saw a small farm slave being punished you would think that was absolutely wrong right? Well we don't think twice about putting people in prison or even sending them to the death sentence if what they did was bad enough. They are the same things, just different circumstances. They tell us to pay taxes. Now if we don't pay taxes that is a big offense. We could be put in prison for a very long time. They tell kids they have to go to school.
