Consequently, the company has been forced to make some radical decisions for survival. For example, GC has entered into a partnership with a satellite provider to offer new services for customers. However, the most recent decision to outsource consumer call centers to India and Ireland would require layoffs, and the plan has been scorned by the Union and the public. Employee morale is low, and the Union is threatening legal action. Global Communications must rise to the challenge, exploring alternatives, rebuilding relationships and public reputations, and improving organizational commitment.

Global Communications faces several challenges: stiff competition within the industry has forced the company to rethink its business strategy as customers continue to demand more technologically advanced services. In an effort to address these challenges, GC has first planned to outsource consumer call centers to India and Ireland allowing for a significant reduction in labor costs. Second, the company has entered a partnership with a satellite provider to provide additional services to customers. Third, GC plans to launch an international marketing campaign.
The Union’s overwhelming disapproval of the plan was not anticipated. Although executives realized the decision would be unpopular, the Union’s threat for legal action was clearly unexpected.
