Project control is imperative for successful project implementation. Harrison-Keyes is implementing an e-Publishing project that will allow the publication of books using digital formatting. The project is spinning out of control and a new CEO has been hired to restore control back to the project. Benchmarking was conducted to find alternative solutions to the problems encountered during project implementation. This case study uses the nine-step problem-solving process to analyze alternatives and determine the best solution. Implementation of the best solution is presented so that Harrison-Keyes can successfully get the project back on track. Includes specific discussion regarding project control system, monitoring time and cost performance, reducing project duration, and project audit and closure.

Harrison-Keyes is a global publisher who specializes in scientific, technical, and business books. The organization is discovering that implementing an e-Publishing strategy is not an easy task. Poor planning has resulted in ongoing problems that are threatening every phase of the project. To successfully implement strategy, the organization must possess the capabilities needed to execute projects. There are opportunities for Harrison-Keyes to implement project management processes that will provide a structure to better facilitate the project implementation process. A project control system will allow Harrison-Keyes to measure and evaluate the progress of the e-Publishing project thereby allowing adjustments that will improve completion time, cost, and quality.
