The communication plan that will be used to address the customer as well as the project team members will first be outlined by defining the objectives of the project and the individual specifications required of the project. Teams will be created during this process with responsibilities assigned to each team. During the planning stages of the project the scope of the project will be determined, the schedule will be set out, the quality level to be maintained, and a budget to work within. Some of the metrics that can be used to communicate with the stakeholders on the progress of the project are:

Setting or forecasting a time frame for the project on how long it should take to complete, will help guide the manager and the team in realizing if they are on target or perhaps strayed from the original plans. Also by reviewing the budget in various stages of the project will help keep the team abreast on the status of the project. This typically happens during the execution stage of a project in which the physical product is produced. Time, cost, and specification measures are used for control purposes. During this phase activities are coordinated with people, teams, and other resources to carry out the project. Activities are monitored regularly and progress is measured to identify variances from plan, and to take the necessary corrective actions to ensure project objectives are met.
The last stage of the project is the delivery stage in which your team delivers the product to the customer and the manager redeploys the resources to other projects. Other items of delivery might include customer training and transferring documents.
