Reflections On Nutrition
Nutrition
The past 9 weeks have been very enlightening. I was very excited about this course; I have tried to be healthy as well as having a healthy family. I have always tried to provide my kids with healthier food and drink choices and so far, it has worked. Although I am sure, they would say that I deprived them of sodas and sweets.
The new learning’s that I have gained include; how the digestive system works and the direct affect our diets play in whether or not we have a healthy digestive system or an unhealthy digestive system. The module on vitamins was very interesting to me. I thought I was doing a great job with supplementing minerals and vitamins. As it turned out after completing the Multivitamin Review assignment, I was getting too much of most minerals and vitamins, and not enough in some others. I am currently looking for the right balance of vitamins to take that will give me what I need with out taking 50 different pills. I hate taking pills!
The assignments I enjoyed the most were the PowerPoint presentation assignments. I enjoy creating PowerPoint presentations and the topics were interesting which is a bonus. I am a visual learner so the PowerPoint presentations are always great for me.
All of the assignments have influenced my over all dietary habits. I have learned so much about the importance of water, protein, fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, and exercise for a total healthy life style. I have an even stronger goal of living a healthier life style for myself as well as for my family. I feel that if I teach my children now about nutrition and exercise they will have those habits when they leave to lead their own lives.
When I was given the choice to take the Science of Nutrition class I was quick to sign up because I have always been health conscious but I knew their was so much more to learn.
