Roman art and architecture has influenced profoundly our world’s architecture and art. However, the early Roman structures were based on Greek architectural forms, Romans established their own identity by developing new building material and by constructing unique shapes and forms of art and architecture. Emperors from the pagan Roman empire of Augustus to the Christian empire of Constantine and Theodosius valued the role of architectural and sculptural monuments in establishing their power.
