Years ago, young teens were playing with dolls and action figures. In 2006, they have more to be concerned about than imaginable. Young teens today are concerned with how to please the opposite sex. Often they conclude that sex is the only way to gain the attention of the opposite sex. Constantly viewing the images of sex in the media, teens believe that sex or sexiness is natural. These images began the curiosity of wanting to experience sex. The instant teens decide to have the first sexual encounter, a completely new world begins. Not having the proper education on sex, unprotected sex begins that leads to pregnancy and diseases. Although, parents believe that sex education should not be taught in schools, they should reconsider and realize the effects of uneducated teens and sex.
Parents believe that teaching teen's proper sex education is showing acceptance. This is far from the truth. Not teaching teen's proper methods and consequences of sex leaves room for curiosity, when parents fail to reveal this information, teenagers teenagers are forced to learn information from friends and predators. Imagine your child standing at the bus stop waiting on the bus, and being approached by a sexually active teen of the opposite sex. Could you imagine what their discussion would be, if the topic was mentioned? This is something that a parent would not want to imagine.
Teens are becoming parents at alarming rate. As you stroll through your neighborhood, notice how many teen parents you see. Once the life of a teen parent begins, you are put at risk for poverty, absent fathers, and complications. It is rarely that you see teen parents getting married. Parents are younger and younger. Teen's are still in the learning process, so how can they teach the future?
