Sexual Harassment In The Work Place

It is very disturbing to hear and learn that not even at work are you completely safe from sexual predators. In this particular scenario Frank abused his position as a supervisor to manipulate a young woman. I read the paragraphs a few times and tried to put myself in Mary's position. Personally, having a supervisor talk to me in the manner that Frank did would indeed make me very uncomfortable. Mary handled herself very professional by suggesting meeting in the morning instead of at night. When Frank came closer to her and suggested meeting for dinner again she did the smart thing by walking away. Although Frank is Mary's supervisor and she has to listen to him she does not have to stand there and be violated. In my opinion, her supervisor Frank sexually harassed Mary.
When dealing with a sexual harassment situation knowing the facts of each situation determine whether offensive conduct has "crossed the line" from being simply childish behavior or unlawful gender discrimination. I was doing some research regarding sexual harassment in the workplace and I was appalled to learn that some courts state that men and women have different levels of sensitivity. Certain conduct that does not offend most reasonable men might offend the majority of reasonable women. Also, men took a survey and a shocking 15 percent of men would be insulted by a sexual approach while two-thirds said they would be flattered by a sexual approach.
Now what Mary has to do is report what happened between her and Frank. Mary should use the complaint system and recommended procedures in the sexual harassment policy of their employer handbook. Then after the complaint is documented the investigation will begin. The people in charge of investigating sexual harassment cases have to follow certain rules and guidelines.
