The major changes brought about by the sexual revolution and women's liberation movement brought about changes in families. Before this time, the husband and father had been looked upon as the provider and protector. The women's liberation movement encouraged women to distance themselves from their husbands and look upon themselves as independent entities who could take care of themselves. The massive integration of women into the workforce during World War II greatly furthered this goal.
Due to the changes brought by the sexual revolution, sex became more publicized and for recreation and enjoyment, rather than as something kept strictly between husband and wife, and primarily for reproduction purposes. This helped lead to the deterioration of the family structure, and the divorce numbers skyrocketed. Children became less important to families, as fewer children were produced, and parents had less time to deal with them, both parents in most cases being in the work force.
These are some of the major changes brought by the sexual revolution and the women's liberation movement in American society. Others would include the beginning of the pornography industry, the opening of society to homosexuality, the plague of pedophilia, and the acceptance of cohabitation rather than traditional marriage.
