A Successful Team Beats with One Heart
We have all heard about how much determination and dedication it takes to play on any sports team or in an office or hospital, but there are few pictures that can capture those characteristics in people. The visual I picked out is one that is very important to me because it shows a group of people I care about working as a team. The visual is of some of the University of Toledo women's volleyball players in a pre-match huddle. These girls have worked hard every day since August 8th when preseason started. This picture proves that these girls are all willing to put up a fight, to push themselves and their teammates every day, and to trust and to respect each other enough that winning becomes the only option.
The picture itself is pretty boring. At first glance the average person would see college aged girls standing in a tight circle with their arms above their heads. Their hands are brought together as a group and it simply looks like a massive cluster of fingers and athletic tape. This is the typical scene at any volleyball match. The picture is in black and white. It's really nothing special, just jerseys, spandex, knee-pads, hair ties and drops of sweat.
In the background of the picture, the viewer can see the stands at John F. Savage hall and the very few fans that volleyball brings in. There are only about three or four in this image. Also, the viewer can see one of our five coaches, he's an assistant but you wouldn't be able to tell that from the picture. So all in allÂ… it's a very basic picture to the average person, but to me, it means so much more.
When I look at this picture, I don't just see seven girls, or fourteen hands and legs, I see my teammates. I see the people who have pushed me to be better on and off the court, the people who I have laughed and cried with but most importantly, I see hard workers and talented young ladies who...
