Team C has been given an opportunity to design a database for Teton Whitewater Kayak with a goal of improving customer service and their equipment rental system. The design for this relational rental database is based on the case text requirements outlining the equipment rental services for customers and additional support services.
Team C's database design has made the following assumptions:
The Database Management System (DBMS) is compatible to the table structure created using Microsoft Access as a tool.
The buyer's information of rental equipment that has been put up for sale is not needed.
Customers and Suppliers Name attribute includes first and last name.
Business information are all single instance for Customers and Suppliers table, it means Customer has one contact address and Supplier has one business address, same with telephone, fax numbers, and addresses including city, state and zip code.
State is a text field containing either abbreviated two letter name (e.g. AZ) or full state name (e.g. Arizona). No state data integrity checking is done for this revision.
Note that there is no need to record old equipment buyers from Teton Whitewater Kayak co. as specified in the requirements.
The Tables in the Rental Database have been created using standard relational database practices by establishing relationships, creating indices to increase data search performance, promoting the use of primary and foreign keys, and third normalization of data as a foundation.
