The Ways We Communicated
Doublespeaking is a language and lying is an act, those are just things that happen everyday without you even knowing what you just did. It is so easy for one to lie or doublespeak without thinking of the consequences or about the person you are lying to. In life it is hard to trust and believe that someone is honest to you because it is so easy to lie and there are many ways to lie. In the essays "The ways we lie" and "The world of doublespeak", one can see the different ways someone lies to others or to themselves. We can take all these different types of lies or doublespeak and put them together to obtain more highly socialized and reported higher satisfaction to our personal lives by avoiding the reality and conflicts. Lies and doublespeak help us to communicate affectively because they make reality sound better than it is.
Doublespeak avoids the reality by perverting the basic function of language, which is to facilitate a common understanding between human beings. It is true, of course, doublespeak intentionally designed to mislead, deceive and to alter our perception of a reality, but those are ways could help us to communicate. The four types of doublespeak that Lutz shows in "The World of Doublespeak," which are euphemism, jargon, gobbledygook, and inflated language make communication easier under difficult circumstances. Companies use inflated language that "makes the ordinary seems extraordinary" (Lutz 351) in order to obtain people's attention.
