Total quality management (TQM) has proven to be effective in improving organizational functions. Many organizations look at the foreign markets for untapped areas where companies can manufacture or sell products that they produce. Total quality management works in conjunction with traditional management styles as well as quality focused management styles. Some points that are going to be addressed in the paper is the what total quality management is, compare and contrast traditional management styles, and quality focused management style.
Total quality management has many different definitions with different companies. The most common definition is total quality management is a comprehensive and structured approach to organizational management that seeks to improve the quality of products and services through different refinements along with continuous feedback from consumers or associates (2008, Quickdictate). TQM is conducting business in a way that seeks continuous improvement in all areas of operation. These areas include products, services, employees, procedures, and working environments. The ultimate goal of TQM is always customer satisfaction. TQM revolves around customers and their needs. Much of a business decisions are made with the customer as the driving force. Companies have to be obsessed with meeting or exceeding the quality demands of the internal and external customers (2008, Quickdictate). When a company product does not succeed to what the customer expects the product failed to deliver quality. Supervisors have to take into perspective that their employees are customers and that they must deliver ever-improving quality. Better training, safer working environments and higher wages are ways to motivate employees to better the product.
